Senate Majority Leader Pittman Responds to Governor Shapiro’s Election Threats Task Force

Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman responded to Governor Shapiro's announcement of the establishment of his "Pennsylvania Election Threats Task Force" by expressing the Senate Republican Caucus's commitment to strengthening election integrity in Pennsylvania. Pittman stated, "The Senate Republican Caucus has been and remains committed to strengthening election integrity in Pennsylvania because we believe that the foundation of a healthy and vigorous democracy requires free, fair, and secure elections."

Pittman criticized Governor Shapiro's decision to create the task force without consulting the General Assembly, stating, "This task force was crafted by a unilateral decision made by the Shapiro Administration without any input from the General Assembly – the branch of government most representative of the will of the people of Pennsylvania."

Highlighting concerns raised by Pennsylvanians from both political sides regarding recent elections, Pittman emphasized the Senate Republicans' efforts to implement critical reforms to restore faith in the voting process. He pointed out that the first piece of legislation advanced in the General Assembly this session was Senate Bill 1, which focused on a constitutional amendment on voter identification.

Pittman stressed the importance of enhancing election integrity to boost voter confidence, urging the House of Representatives and Governor Shapiro to allow Pennsylvanians to have a say on Voter ID. The statement concluded by providing contact information for inquiries related to the matter.
