State Representative Brian Smith announced today that fire and ambulance companies in the 66th Legislative District will collectively receive $320,214 in state grants to support their public safety mission. Smith emphasized the importance of this funding for volunteer and nonprofit organizations in offsetting their operating costs and allowing them to continue serving their communities.

"Our EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters are ready at a moment's notice to keep Jefferson and Indiana counties safe," said Smith. "But many of these departments rely on the support of grants like these. This funding is crucial in ensuring their ability to provide essential services to our communities."

The funding for these grants is part of an ongoing grant program established by the Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). It is important to note that the funding comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming, rather than General Fund tax revenue.

The grants awarded to the fire and ambulance companies in the 66th District will be used for various projects and purposes, including the construction or renovation of facilities, equipment purchase or repair, training, and debt reduction. All companies that meet the requirements outlined by the OSFC are eligible to apply for funding and receive grants.
